Jack’s Guitarcheology Hondo MIJ Strat-o-Tele Partscaster (Foto Flame, Light Relic Redburst)

Jack’s Guitarcheology Hondo MIJ Strat-o-Tele Partscaster (Foto Flame, Light Relic Redburst)

For sale here is a partscaster I built using parts I have acquired in my travels! Here is what I know about it:

The body is Alder with a “Foto Flame” top. It is from a Hondo that was made in Japan immediately post lawsuit era — I would assume in the early to mid 1980s. The neck was not great when I got it, so I decided to swap it out. The body is great though, it has that RARE “foto flame” top that they only did in Japan for a short time. Some of the MIJ Fender’s have them as well, it is done with a thin sheet of flame printed on laminate paper that makes the top look like flame maple when it is buried under the finish. The body is solid alder, not ply as far as I can tell when I took the neck off.

This strat has a super 1980s look and feel to it. The electronics are original to the body. The electronics sound wonderful — super chunky 80’s sounding strat tone. The body has a few dings or scratches in the finish, the worst of which is some chipping on the roundover by the waist. (See pics)

The neck is a Mitey Mite TELE neck. Fender licensed with the Fender headstock. The tuners are Allparts brand 10 mm Gotoh copies.

The original guitar had a squared off neck pocket, so I decided to put a Tele neck on this Strat to mix it up. The neck is super bright and spanky. I bought it refurbished, so the last two frets (Frets 21 & 22) were pretty high when I got them. I leveled them down some, but frets 19-21 are still a little plinky in places. Because of this, I am selling this guitar “as described” and discounting the price. Though, if you are like myself and 99% of guitar players, you will probably never notice because we hardly adventure that far up the neck.

The action is great, and this is really a great playing strat. Trem works wonderfully and is really responsive — the bridge is original to the body as well. I replaced the old trem springs with new ones, so the tremolo doesn’t “float.”

As always, I cleaned it up, polished the finish, flushed the electronics, changed the strings and set the action as low as I could. This guitar is proudly strung with Stringjoy Custom Guitar Strings, made right here in Nashville, TN.

This guitar has no case or gig bag. As always, I pack my guitars up tight and always ship with full insurance.

Got questions? Shoot me a message, I love nerding out with other gearheads
