Jack’s Guitarcheology “The GREMLIN” Barncaster Reclaimed Wood Electric Guitar (2020, Natural)

YEE (and I cannot stress this enough) HAW!

Here is a guitar I found on Reverb, and I noticed it had some serious potential, so I bought it and made some improvements. Here is a quick list of specs:

  • Homemade electric guitar. (Duh.)
  • When I bought it, it had a First Act neck on it, but I thought that this MIK Strat neck I had with “Gremlin” printed on it was just too perfect, so I swapped them out. It is a much nicer neck anyway.
  • The tuners are vintage MIK tuners. Original to the Gremlin neck.
  • Fixed single piece rosewood bridge.
  • The pickup is a GFS Strat-sized goldfoil and sounds AMAZING! It is really the selling point of the whole guitar. When I got the guitar, the pickup was just wired straight to jack, so I took it apart and routed a spot to install and wire in a simple volume control. The pickup sounds amazing now. Shimmery and clean, with plenty of output to boot!
  • Pine board bottom, weathered reclaim barn board on top. They were unfinished when I received the guitar, so I finished the top in tung oil to seal and protect them from dirt/water/grime/etc, and gave the back a good black coat.
  • The top board is screwed to the bottom, so you can open it up if you want to replace the pickup, jack, electronics, or customize this thing yourself. It is actually fairly straight forward.

The only down side is that the bridge is fixed, so you can not adjust the saddle height. Thus, the action is the tiniest smidgeon of a little bit higher than I usually set my electrics. Not even really that noticably, just raised a tad higher than I would like to be called perfect. It still plays and sounds great considering what it is. Due to the custom/whacky/home made nature of this guitar, I will be selling it “as described.” No returns.

The original seller described it as: “Good clean wholesome fun” and I tend to agree! As always I oiled the board, changed the strings, polished the finish and tweaked the set up. Due to the highly odd and custom nature of this guitar, I will be selling it “as described.” This guitar is proudly strung with Stringjoy Custom Guitar Strings, made right here in Nashville, TN.

Got questions? Shoot me a message, I love nerding out with other gearheads!

🎵What rolls down stairs
alone or in pairs,
and over your neighbor’s dog?
What’s great for a snack,
And fits on your back?
It’s log, log, log

It’s log, it’s log,
It’s big, it’s heavy, it’s wood.
It’s log, it’s log, it’s better than bad, it’s good.”

Everyone wants a log
You’re gonna love it, log
Come on and get your log
Everyone needs a log
log log log!🎵
