Here for sale is a one humbucker Airline 7214 made by Valco in Chicago sometime around 1963-64. This is one of my favorite guitars I have ever had, it is a great player. Maybe the best playing vintage guitar I have ever held, and it looks like something out of Jack White’s wildest fantasies.
The action is super low and comfortable. The neck reminds me of some modern LPs I have played. There is no real damage to speak of other than some of the black pinstriping being worn off the plastic pickguard, but to me, this just adds to the relic and makes this thing even more mean looking.
This guitar is super short scale, but I kind of like it. It is 22″ which makes it the same scale as the early Fender Musicmasters.
The pickup sounds great, a kind of vintage warmth you can’t get in a modern humbucker! The tube amp-in-case works great and really sings when paired with this guitar, it is a surprisingly clean sounding amp, with little to no hum or buzz once it gets warmed up. You can see a demo of this amp on my Instagram @jacksguitarcheology.
There is a vintage “Campbell” family crest decal on the headstock, but I left it because I thought it looked super cool and tasteful. If you want me to remove it for shipping, I would be happy to do so. Who knows, maybe your last name is Campbell and you want this guitar just for that!
I really can’t think of a single downside on this guitar, but shoot me your questions if you have them. In all honesty, I am not really wanting to sell it. If I didn’t have so much invested in it, I don’t think that I would, so lowball offers will not be entertained on this listing. You are going to have to sweet talk me to get thing out of my mitts!
As always, I cleaned it up, polished the finish, lemon oiled the board, flushed the electronics, changed the strings and set the action as low as I could. This guitar is proudly strung with Stringjoy Custom Guitar Strings, made right here in Nashville, TN.
I pack my guitars up tight and insure every package for the full sale amount, so you can buy with confidence.
Seriously, no BS, this is absolutely one of the nicest guitars I have ever had in my shop!
Got questions? Shoot me a message, I love nerding out with other gearheads!
